Apartments at New Market West, a Mission First Housing development project, is transformative in West Philadelphia’s Haddington/Cobbs Creek community. Turning the tide of disinvestment in that area, Apartments at New Market West supports long-term residents and fills the much-needed gap of affordable housing.

The five-story building consists of 28 one-bedroom and 13 two-bedroom apartments that are spacious and filled with upscale finishes. Six units are fully accessible and two units are equipped for adults with sensory needs. The apartments also include preference to house individuals with intellectual disabilities in five of the units.

“You can’t beat this, you really can’t. To be blessed to be able to come in here, and to be among people who appreciate that they are here means a whole lot. From the day I walked in this door, I felt peace.”

– Athena, resident

Mission First Housing Group takes pride that the building meets Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency’s (PHFA) threshold to be considered a green building and achieved a reduced Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index under the Enterprise Green Building criteria. Community Lenders provided long-term financing on the apartments.

With safety and convenience as top priorities, amenities at the Apartments at New Market West include a community room with a kitchen, laundry room, fitness center, secured building entry, 24-hour emergency maintenance service and on-site property management office. Adjacent from the apartments is the new neighborhood hub, New Market West, where residents can access child care, community resources, healthcare, retail, and more.

Mission First Housing Group’s goal was to not only eliminate a vacant lot, but also to create housing for low-income individuals near transit. Apartments at New Market West is a quick walk from the 60th Street Market-Frankford El, making it perfect for those commuting to work or interested in enjoying different parts of the city. Also within walking distance is a supermarket, shopping, restaurants, and a recreation center.
